Beautiful newborn photographs should never come at the expense of your baby’s comfort or safety. My approach to newborn photography is calm, patient and adapted to each individual baby to create great authentic photographs.
Newborn Photography Safety in Lisbon
Your baby’s safety and comfort are my highest priorities during every newborn photography session in Lisbon. As an experienced in-home newborn photographer, I carefully adapt each session to your baby’s needs. I use gentle handling, safe posing techniques and a calm, baby-led approach throughout the session. Because the photography takes place in your home, your baby remains in a familiar environment while I bring the mobile studio, backgrounds, blankets, wraps and equipment needed for the session.
Gentle Handling and Safe Posing
Every baby is different, and I never force a newborn into a pose. I always support your baby’s head and neck carefully and adapt each position according to their comfort, flexibility and natural movements. If your baby seems uncomfortable, unsettled or simply does not like a particular position, we stop and try something different. The goal is always to create beautiful photographs without compromising your baby’s comfort or safety.
A Baby-Led Photography Session
Newborn sessions are not rushed. We take as many breaks as necessary for feeding, changing, soothing or cuddling. If your baby needs time to settle or prefers to stay awake for part of the session, I simply adapt the photographs accordingly. Your baby’s rhythm determines the pace of the session. This also means that not every baby will create exactly the same photographs or poses — and that is completely fine.
A Warm and Comfortable Environment
Newborn babies can become cold easily when they are being photographed without clothing or while being changed between setups. I make sure the photography area is comfortably warm and prepare blankets, wraps and accessories in advance so that your baby spends as little time as possible waiting between photographs. I also monitor your baby’s comfort throughout the session and adjust the setup whenever necessary.
Clean Equipment and Accessories
All reusable newborn photography props, blankets, wraps and accessories are cleaned regularly and prepared before each session. I also wash and sanitise my hands before handling your baby and always wear a mask to prevent any possible contamination. I maintain clean working practices throughout the photography session. Because the studio comes into your home, I also keep the equipment organised and minimise unnecessary handling of your baby’s personal items.
Parents Stay Close Throughout the Session
Parents are always welcome to stay nearby and be involved throughout the newborn photography session. You know your baby better than anyone, and your presence can help them feel calm and secure. I may also ask for your assistance occasionally. And, depending on the style you choose, we can also create photographs of your newborn with parents and siblings.
Training and Experience
Newborn photography is my specialty. Over the past five years, I have photographed hundreds of newborn babies and worked closely with families during those very first days of life. I have completed professional training in newborn photography, newborn assessment and safe posing, and I bring that training together with extensive hands-on experience in every session. Working with so many babies has taught me how to read their cues, understand when they need a pause, help them settle and adapt the session naturally to their individual rhythm. Many parents jokingly call me the “baby whisperer” because of the calm way I work with newborns and how quickly they often relax during the session. I never rush a baby or force a pose. Every movement, position and setup is approached with professional knowledge, patience and careful attention to the baby’s comfort and safety.
